Full Day Kindergarten Everyday

Whether your child has attended preschool at Alerces or is joining our community for the first time, we are excited to welcome them into our magical Kindergarten learning environment in Saskatoon. Kindergarten children will learn through play and exploration while meeting (and exceeding!) the benchmarks of the Saskatchewan kindergarten curriculum. Following the Early Learning Principles as set out by the Government of Saskatchewan, we focus on the whole child, including their social, emotional, physical, intellectual and spiritual development. At Alerces, children gain confidence through cooperation and play, explore reading and writing in both English and Spanish, express themselves through music, dance and art, practice mindfulness through yoga and play outdoors as part of our Forest School initiative.

Full Day Kindergarten

Alerces offers a unique opportunity for full day kindergarten every day which sets them apart from many public school kindergarten programs in Saskatoon. Most Saskatoon public and Catholic schools offer alternating full days or half days. Parents have the option of placing their children in morning Kindergarten or full day Kindergarten classes Monday through Friday.

Bilingual Spanish Kindergarten

Children learn Spanish at their own pace, in a relaxed environment rich with activities taught in both Spanish and English. Teachers form strong connections with each student supporting their unique learning needs. For parents that would like their children to have a bilingual education, Alerces is a great option to expose children to a second language in their early learning years.  Alerces graduates often integrate naturally into French immersion programs due to early exposure to an additional language.

Saskatchewan Kindergarten Curriculum

Alerces follows the Saskatchewan Kindergarten Curriculum from the Saskatchewan Ministry of Education. Alerces is inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach and inquiry curriculum, so kindergarten classes take on a truly child-centered approach, letting children's curiosity grow, becoming inspired and directing their learning.

Kindergarten Program FAQS

Should I be worried about switching to public school in Grade 1?

This is a valid concern and all children are different. Many families choose to stay at Alerces for Kindergarten because their children have formed great friendships and are comfortable in the environment which facilitates their learning. Some parents also find that the consistency of full-day kindergarten is better for their children than half-day or alternating days. This schedule can also make it easier for working parents to manage.

When can my child start kindergarten?

Your child can start Kindergarten in September as long as they will be five years old by January 31st.

Will my child be behind in Grade 1?

At Alerces, we follow the Saskatoon Public Schools Kindergarten curriculum so you can rest assured that your child will be learning the same material as other Kindergarten students throughout the city.
